Know Your Risk! The most common risk factors for cancer include:

  • Growing Older
  • Use of Alcohol or Tobacco
  • A Family History of Cancer
  • Poor Diet
  • Lack of Physical Activity
  • Being Overweight
  • Exposure (or over-exposure) to: sunlight, ionizing radiation, certain chemicals, some viruses and bacteria, and certain hormones

Most of these risk factors can be avoided or reduced while others, such as your family history or your age, cannot. If you think you may be at risk for cancer, ask your doctor about ways to reduce your risk and set up a regular schedule of monthly or annual checkups as needed.
